Basketball Recap: Calvary Christian Comes Up Short

Calvary Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Ridgemont Golden Gophers, falling 57-20. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Gophers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Kari Gantz was Calvary Christian's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Megan Palmer held things down on the boards with six rebounds.

Laney Elsasser was nothing short of spectacular for Ridgemont: she went 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Elsasser has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruth Eckstein, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Calvary Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Ridgemont, their record now sits at 3-6.

Calvary Christian will square off against Ridgedale at 2:30 p.m. on January 11th. As for Ridgemont, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 48-34 loss against Elgin on the 9th.
