Basketball Game Preview: Pickett County Bobcats vs. Gordonsville Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Pickett County Bobcats challenge the Gordonsville Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday... Both are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Last Thursday, Pickett County humbled Clay County with a 76-41 victory. The Bobcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 26 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Jacob Amonett, who went 10 of 19 en route to 31 points and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Pickett County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathaniel Cobb, who posted nine points along with seven boards and five assists.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gordonsville). They claimed a resounding 72-17 win over Red Boiling Springs. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 410th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gordonsville pushed their record up to 10-5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Pickett County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-5.
