The Northwood Gators will head out on the road to take on the Glenmora Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Northwood will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Rapides on Wednesday. The Gators blew past the Mustangs 11-3. The win continues a trend for the Gators in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
Kelsey Bennett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, Northwood got a massive performance out of Alaya Cornett, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. Those two triples gave Cornett a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Micheala Bolden, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Glenmora was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 14-1 to Buckeye.
Avery Fuller was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Glenmora's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Northwood, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.
Northwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Gators have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Glenmora, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Northwood continue to outrun the ball?
Northwood might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Glenmora when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Gators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
