Baseball Recap: Umatilla Has No Trouble Against Riverside

After only one run in their last matchup, Umatilla made sure to put some runs up on the board against Riverside on Tuesday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Carter Griggs made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brian Younger-Morris, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Rj Estrada was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Umatilla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only posted an OBP of .240.

Umatilla's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-5. As for Riverside, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Umatilla will welcome Enterprise/Joseph at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Riverside, they will host Nyssa at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
