Softball Recap: Clifton Victorious

Clifton's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Hawthorne Bears 8-6. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won three in a row.

Kylee Ocasio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Clifton got a massive performance out of Josephine Zagorski, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Zagorski a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey Mullen, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Clifton's victory bumped their record up to 14-9-1. As for Hawthorne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season.

Clifton and Hawthorne are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Mustangs will face off against Mount Olive on Tuesday. As for Hawthorne, they will square off against Cresskill on Tuesday.
