Baseball Game Preview: Evergreen Cougars vs. Wheat Ridge Farmers

The Evergreen Cougars will head out to square off against the Wheat Ridge Farmers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Evergreen will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Evergreen proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over D'Evelyn. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Brody March was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. March was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Mauro, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Evergreen lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Wheat Ridge lost 16-3 to Littleton on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Farmers in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost six in a row.

Evergreen's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Wheat Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Evergreen took their win against Wheat Ridge in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Farmers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
