Basketball Game Preview: Chambers Cougars vs. Mallard Creek Mavericks

Chambers has won four straight games at home, while Mallard Creek has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Chambers Cougars will welcome the Mallard Creek Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Chambers' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 16 contests.

It was a proper cat-fight when Chambers took on West Charlotte on Tuesday. Chambers came out on top against West Charlotte by a score of 73-66. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won eight in a row.

Chambers' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tarris Bouie III, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Bouie III a new career-high in assists (six). Markus Kerr was another key player, going 10 of 17 on his way to 24 points.

Chambers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mallard Creek). They blew past West Mecklenburg 75-44 on Tuesday. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Hawks are ranked 521st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chambers' win bumped their record up to 15-8. As for Mallard Creek, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Everything came up roses for Chambers against Mallard Creek in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured an 89-61 victory. Will Chambers repeat their success, or does Mallard Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
