Sophia Gutierrez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Gutierrez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Maria Castillo was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Angie Cervantes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Anaheim posted their closest win since February 23, 2024 on Monday. They skirted past Ocean View 12-11.
Like Los Amigos, Anaheim also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Falt. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Falt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenelle Monzon, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Tatyana Rosa was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.
Anaheim hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Anaheim pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Los Amigos, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
Anaheim's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Los Amigos has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Anaheim, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 strikeouts. Will Los Amigos keep running through batters, or will Anaheim buck the trend?
