Baseball Recap: Old Bridge Beats Monroe Township for Their Fourth Straight Win

Old Bridge waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Monroe Township Falcons a 6-0 shutout. The Knights' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.

Justin Hascup was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, John Sorrano and Matt Chin did most of the damage at the plate: Sorrano went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Chin went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two hits gave Sorrano a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Jannucci, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Old Bridge pushed their record up to 8-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Monroe Township, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Coming up, Old Bridge will challenge Seton Hall Prep at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Monroe Township will be paying especially close attention to Old Bridge's game: after Old Bridge faces off against Seton Hall Prep, they'll take on Monroe Township again at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
