Atchison has won nine straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Wyandotte has won nine straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Phoenix will welcome the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, Atchison made easy work of Veritas Christian and carried off a 16-9 win.
The team relied heavily on Yogi Purdy, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Leighton Boldridge was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Atchison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Wyandotte got the win against Guadalupe Centers on Monday by a conclusive 16-8. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.
Jacob Mascorro made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs but no hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Wyandotte is undefeated when Mascorro posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Alan Perez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. He has become a key player for Wyandotte: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jamarion Madlock, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Wyandotte is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Atchison, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0-2.
Atchison took their win against Wyandotte when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Phoenix have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
