Basketball Recap: Grand Valley Takes a Loss

After flying high against St. John last Tuesday, Grand Valley came back down to earth. The Grand Valley Mustangs fell to the Maplewood Rockets 48-42. The Mustangs have struggled against the Rockets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Maplewood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Claire Urchek, who went 6 of 14 en route to 19 points and four steals. Aliah Brumit was another key player, going 5 for 11 to rack up 16 points and five boards.

Grand Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Maplewood, they pushed their record up to 19-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Grand Valley will venture away from home to take on LaBrae at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. As for Maplewood, they have already played their next contest, a 49-36 win against Edgewood on the 8th.
