Basketball Recap: Marcos de Niza Takes a Loss

Marcos de Niza's game on Tuesday was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 28-27 to the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos. The Padres have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Padres players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nailani Joe, who posted eight points along with 13 boards and four steals. Joe is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leila Rodriguez, who earned three points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Marcos de Niza smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 18 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead La Joya Community to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bella Begay, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Samaris Pena, who had 12 points and four steals.

Marcos de Niza's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for La Joya Community, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.

Marcos de Niza didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-38 victory against Cortez on the 12th. As for La Joya Community, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-17 loss against Paradise Valley on the 12th.
