Softball Game Preview: Mentor Cardinals vs. Shaker Heights Red Raiders

The Mentor Cardinals will head out to take on the Shaker Heights Red Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mentor is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Mentor proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Brunswick, sneaking past 7-5.

The team relied heavily on Sophia Smalley, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Aubree Col?n also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Mentor lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brunswick didn't launched any home runs.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Shaker Heights' good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They came up short against Medina, falling 12-0.

Mentor's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Shaker Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Mentor took their win against Shaker Heights in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 12-0 score. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Red Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
