Basketball Recap: Tiana Washington's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wekiva over Lake Highland Prep

Wekiva lost against Lake Highland Prep back in November of 2020 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Wekiva Mustangs received a blow as they fell 47-30 to the Lake Highland Prep Highlanders. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Highlanders are ranked 81st).

Wekiva lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tiana Washington, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Washington a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julissa Miles, who posted four points.

Eryn Griffin was a one-woman wrecking crew for Lake Highland Prep as she dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Myanna Hatchette, who earned ten points and five steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Wekiva and nudges their season record down to 6-15. As for Lake Highland Prep, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-11.

Wekiva will face off against Bishop Moore at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lake Highland Prep, they will square off against Colonial at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Colonial will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Lake Highland Prep surely won't give up without a fight.
