Basketball Recap: Cathedral Has No Trouble Against Purdue Polytechnic

Cathedral won the last time they faced Purdue Polytechnic and things went their way on Thursday too. The Cathedral Fighting Irish were the clear victor by a 65-42 margin over the Purdue Polytechnic Techies. The Fighting Irish have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Jaeda Wilson was nothing short of spectacular: she went 9 of 18 on her way to 23 points and five steals. Cathedral is 10-4 when Wilson posts three or more steals, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Abby Beasley, who posted four points in addition to seven assists and seven steals.

Cathedral was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purdue Polytechnic only posted eight assists.

Several Techies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Te'Asia Briscoe, who went 7 for 8 en route to 16 points along with three steals and three blocks. Briscoe's morning made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Nyiah Rogers, who put up nine points.

Cathedral's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Purdue Polytechnic, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.

Cathedral wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 48-43 win against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard on the 17th. As for Purdue Polytechnic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tindley at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
