Baseball Recap: Jefferson Area Gets the Win

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Jefferson Area brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They never let the Conneaut Spartans get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won seven in a row.

Toby Dickson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michael Riffle, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Luke Lambert, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Jefferson Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Jefferson Area's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Conneaut, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson Area will head out to face off against Struthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Conneaut, they will take on Brookfield at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
