League recap: Tri-County North extends winning streak with victory over Bethel

Adding to the longest winning streak in Cross County this week, Tri-County North beat Bethel 50-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Panthers.

Arcanum scaled the state rankings by moving to 432 from 512 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Trojans climbed the ranks as a result of topping Twin Valley South 18-16.

Garrett Griffin threw for 455 yards and 9 touchdowns. He went 23-38 with 0 interception.

Jordan Newman was a force in the backfield as Ansonia lost to National Trail.

Newman was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 32 carries, he ran for 250 yards as the Tigers beat the Tigers. Cody Burnfield also contributed to the rushing game with 43 yards on the ground.

National Trail's Griffin and Phillip White have formed a dream team this season, leading Cross County in both passing and receiving yards. Griffin has thrown for 1,492 yards this season, while White, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 18 catches for 416 yards. Ansonia's Newman leads the league in rushing yards with 647.

Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Tri-County North takes on Covington. William Derringer's team's offense has racked up 227 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Buccs have allowed only 46 on the year.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Covington takes on the Panthers. David Miller's team is currently in third, while Tri-County North is in first.

The Panthers took down the Bees 50-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Austin Hutchins threw for 71 yards and ran for 17 yards in the win.
