Basketball Recap: Central of Coosa County Falls Despite Big Games from Destini Kelley and Queen Ballard

Central of Coosa County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 50-26 to the Ranburne Bulldogs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-26 last Tuesday.

Queen Ballard and Destini Kelley certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Ballard posted seven points and 12 rebounds, while Kelley had nine points in addition to five boards and three steals. Ballard has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 18 times she's played.

Even though they lost, Central of Coosa County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Central of Coosa County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Ranburne, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central of Coosa County and Benjamin Russell will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Ranburne, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Horseshoe Bend at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Ranburne's defense has only allowed 22.2 points per game this season, so Horseshoe Bend's offense will have their work cut out for them.
