Langham Creek hasn't had much luck against Cypress Woods recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Langham Creek is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since September 27, 2024 two weeks ago. They were dealt a 56-14 loss at the hands of Bridgeland. While losing is never fun, the Lobos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 349th, while the Bears are ranked 64th).
Although Langham Creek took the loss, they still got scores from Zaiden Swift and Camarre Palmer.
Meanwhile, Cypress Woods didn't have quite enough to beat Waller two weeks ago and fell 41-38. The loss was the Wildcats' first of the season.
Langham Creek will have to contain Darien Rogers as he made an impact in Cypress Woods' last game. He rushed for 117 yards and one TD on only 14 carries, and also threw for 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Cory McKenzie, who rushed for 138 yards and one score on only 15 carries.
Even if they lost, Cypress Woods' defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Tyce Pruneda with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season.
Cypress Woods' defeat dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Langham Creek, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-1.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Langham Creek has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 166.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cypress Woods struggles in that department as they've been averaging 226.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Langham Creek ended up a good deal behind Cypress Woods when the teams last played back in October of 2024, losing 38-21. Can the Lobos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
