Johnny Ortegae spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Michael Coleman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin DiRita, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Ghost Prep). They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over La Salle College on Friday. Considering the Firebirds have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Matt Riendeau tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Holy Ghost Prep got a massive performance out of Colin Davis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave Davis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Keaser, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Holy Ghost Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Ghost Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.
Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic took their win against Holy Ghost Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. Will the Friars/Pandas repeat their success, or do the Firebirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
