Softball Recap: Annora Graham Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Highland

Grants had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Highland on Tuesday. The Pirates' pitcher stepped up to hand the Hornets a 16-0 shutout. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Alynn Othole was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Grants got a massive performance out of Annora Graham, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave Graham a new career-high. Delilah Martinez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Grants' win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-7. As for Highland, their defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Coming up, Grants will welcome Belen at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Highland, they will venture away from home to square off against Valencia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
