Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Murphy's 12th in Last 15 Outings

Murphy won against Saraland last Tuesday with 66 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Murphy Panthers walked away with a 66-58 win over the Blount Leopards. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Leopards are ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Murphy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryan Jackson, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 17 points and three steals. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Kinley Simmons was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points and four steals.

Murphy is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Blount, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Murphy will face off against McGill-Toolen at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Blount, they will square off against Theodore at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Blount has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
