Football Game Preview: Baker County Wildcats vs. Gainesville Hurricanes

The Baker County Wildcats will face off against the Gainesville Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Things were looking good for Baker County after they put the first points on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 19-13 to Baldwin. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Indians 7-0 in the first quarter.

Samuriah Ruise put forth a good effort for the losing side as she threw for 138 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 73 yards.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Jailei Watson for the heroic effort on defense: he made four total tackles. Baker County's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.

Meanwhile, Gainesville was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 26-25 heartbreaker at the hands of Hawthorne. On the bright side, the 25- point effort marked the Hurricanes' highest-scoring contest to date.

Gainesville's record is now 0-10. As for Baker County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.
