Basketball Recap: Carrboro Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Carrboro can now relate to. They took a blow against the Swansboro Pirates on Tuesday, falling 91-35. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 333rd in North Carolina, while the Pirates are ranked 24th in North Carolina).

Despite the loss, Carrboro had strong showings from Noah Simmons, who posted eight points and five rebounds, and Joe Smith, who scored six points. Simmons is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played.

Swansboro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jermaine Cunningham out in front who went 7-for-9 to rack up 16 points along with seven boards and six assists. The dominant performance also gave Cunningham a new career-high in shooting accuracy (78%). Another player making a difference was Tayvion Tangiora, who went 7-for-8 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Carrboro now has a losing record of 13-14. As for Swansboro, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-1.

Carrboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Swansboro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Swansboro knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 23 matchups -- so hopefully South Central likes a good challenge.
