Recap: Animo Venice Pirates vs. Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles
The Animo Venice Pirates suffered their biggest defeat since December 4, 2023 on Monday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 70-45 walloping at the hands of Verbum Dei Jesuit. Animo Venice has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Animo Venice's loss came despite strong showings from Judah Elliot Smith and Joshua Maximo. Smith dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Maximo scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Smith hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games.
Leading Verbum Dei Jesuit to victory were Harper Whitman and Reese Whitman. Whitman scored 15 points, while Whitman scored 17 points. Whitman continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jose Hinojosa was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five steals.
Animo Venice now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Animo Venice won't have much time to rest: their next game is against New Designs Watts at 3:00 p.m. on January 9th. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on St. Genevieve at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th. St. Genevieve has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 16.
