Softball Recap: Caroline Finds Playoff Glory Versus Varina

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Caroline had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They never let the Varina Blue Devils get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. Considering the Cavaliers have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Tabby Garris looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Caroline got a massive performance out of Kaid Hartsell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Hartsell a new career-high. Kami Hartsell was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Caroline is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Varina, they dropped their record down to 7-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

As of now, neither Caroline nor the Blue Devils have any future games scheduled.
