Softball Recap: Century Has No Trouble Against Liberty

Century was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Liberty on Friday. The Jaguars blew past the Falcons 17-1. Considering the Jaguars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Michelle Katke was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Katke was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Avery Gonzalez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Hailey Kinney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Century kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Century's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Liberty, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Century is set to square off against their familiar foe McMinnville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Jaguars 3.8, the Grizzlies 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Liberty will challenge rival Newberg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
