Preview: Union City Indians vs. Daleville Broncos

The Union City Indians and the Daleville Broncos will face off at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Union City had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They snuck past the Titans with a 49-45 victory. The victory was all the more spectacular given Union City's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Tri is ranked 122nd).

Meanwhile, Daleville came tearing into Saturday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They pulled ahead with a 39-38 photo finish over Anderson Prep Academy.

Daleville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addi Gothrup, who scored nine points along with four steals. Gothrup has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Williams, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Union City now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Daleville, their win bumped their record up to 9-13.

Everything went Union City's way against Daleville in their previous matchup back in December of 2019 as Union City made off with a 70-46 victory. With Union City ahead 42-20 at the half, the game was all but over already.
