Softball Recap: Holcomb Gets the Win

Holcomb's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Gideon Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Khloe Furlow was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Furlow was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI and one double. Those hits marked the first that she got this season.

In other batting news, Chloe Coronado was a standout: she scored three runs while going 1-for-2. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Olivia Joiner was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Holcomb always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Holcomb's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holcomb will challenge Clarkton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Gideon, they will venture away from home to take on Senath-Hornersville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
