Basketball Game Preview: Chatfield Gophers vs. Dover-Eyota Eagles

The Chatfield Gophers will head out to take on the Dover-Eyota Eagles at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Last Tuesday, Chatfield took a blow against Caledonia, falling 99-35. The Gophers have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Dover-Eyota was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They lost 80-59 to La Crescent. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-21.

Despite the defeat, Dover-Eyota saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mat Matejka posted 21 points. That was a full 35.6% of Dover-Eyota's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Drilling, who scored 13 points.

Chatfield's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Dover-Eyota, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.

Chatfield came up short against Dover-Eyota in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 62-58. Can Chatfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
