Recap: George West Longhorns vs. Odem Owls
The George West Longhorns managed to keep up with the Odem Owls until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. George West was beaten by Odem 38-7. Having soared to a lofty 37 points in the game before, George West couldn't push the score so high this time.
Despite the loss, George West still got an impressive performance from Davian Zuniga, who rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Zuniga was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards.
Odem was led to victory by Josh Chavira and Aidan Lozano. Chavira threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt, while Lozano rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown. Odem also got help from Kyle Wuenschel who showed off his sure hands for 80 receiving yards.
George West's defeat was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 14-2 Poth and 10-3 Taft (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.8% over those games). As for Odem, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. George West will take on Taft at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Taft is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. Odem will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Natalia at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th.
