Basketball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Moreno Valley's Tenth in Last 13 Outings

Moreno Valley won the last time they faced Vista del Lago and things went their way on Monday too. The Moreno Valley Vikings blew past the Vista del Lago Ravens 63-43. The Vikings pushed the score to 55-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Ravens cut but never quite recovered from.

Among those leading the charge was Joseph Valenzuela, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamall Thompson, who posted 14 points.

Despite the loss, Vista del Lago saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ja'Marion Jackson put up 17 points and eight rebounds. Derrell Durley was another key player, putting up five points.

Moreno Valley has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.2 points per game. As for Vista del Lago, they dropped their record down to 4-15 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Moreno Valley and Canyon Springs will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. Moreno Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season. As for Vista del Lago, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Paloma Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
