South Panola has gone a perfect 10-0 against Grenada recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Tigers will square off against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Grenada's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: South Panola hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Everything went the Tigers' way against Center Hill on Tuesday as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won eight in a row.
Grady Beck Wilson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Hailey Heafner and Kailey McKinney did most of the damage at the plate: Heafner scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while McKinney scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. What's more, McKinney posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hannah Robertson, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Grenada had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They didn't even let the Conquistadors on the board, marking their second-straight 10-0 shutout.
Grenada let Ac Poynor and Saniya Boyd run wild. Poynor scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Boyd scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Olivia Lashley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Grenada hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matchups.
Grenada pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for South Panola, their record is now 21-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Panola has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Grenada struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Panola took their victory against Grenada in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
