Softball Recap: Potts Camp Extends Winning Streak to Four

Potts Camp hadn't done well against Hickory Flat recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Potts Camp's pitcher stepped up to hand Hickory Flat a 20-0 shutout. The contest marked the Cardinals' most dominant win of the season so far.

Alyssa Clifton made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Harlynn Stephens was a standout: she scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Haley Ackerman was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Potts Camp was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.

The victory (which was Potts Camp's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Hickory Flat, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-11.

Coming up, Potts Camp will take on Shannon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hickory Flat, they will square off against North Pontotoc at 9:00 p.m. on Friday. Hickory Flat's pitchers better be ready for this one: North Pontotoc has averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
