Baseball Recap: Avon Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Avon won the last time they faced Elyria and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Eagles never let the Pioneers get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Luke Holtzman tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jason Gillespie, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Spike, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.

Avon's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. As for Elyria, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.

Coincidentally, Avon and Elyria will both be playing Lakewood the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Rangers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Pioneers will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
