Baseball Game Preview: Rio Grande City Rattlers vs. Mission Eagles

The Rio Grande City Rattlers will face off against the Mission Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio Grande City will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Rio Grande City's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Nixon.

The result came thanks to Hiram Lopez's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Rio Grande City's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 8-9 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Rio Grande City saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Benavidez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Yahir Montemayor also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Mission fell victim to Palmview and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 10-0 to the Lobos. The Eagles have struggled against the Lobos recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Rio Grande City's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mission, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Rio Grande City came out on top in a nail-biter against Mission when the teams last played back in February of 2019, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Rattlers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
