Softball Game Preview: Gananda Central Blue Panthers vs. Lyons Lions

The Gananda Central Blue Panthers will face off against the Lyons Lions at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Gananda Central had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Williamson on Wednesday. The Blue Panthers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Marauders a 13-0 shutout. The Blue Panthers haven't had any issues with the Marauders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lyons challenged North Rose-Wolcott on Tuesday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cougars. Fans of the Lions have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Keira Weber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lyons let Rylee Richardson and Elise Wilkinson run wild. Richardson went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Wilkinson went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave Wilkinson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addison VanLare, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Gananda Central's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Lyons, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Gananda Central couldn't quite get it done against Lyons in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 as they fell 5-1. Can the Blue Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
