Baseball Recap: Downey's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Downey never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the El Rancho Dons with a sharp 13-0 win. The contest marked the Vikings' most dominant victory of the season.

The team relied heavily on Samuel Mojica, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Sebastian Cortez was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Downey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Downey moved to 13-10 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for El Rancho, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-11.

Looking ahead, Downey will welcome Long Beach Poly at 3:14 p.m. on Friday. The Jackrabbits will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight. As for El Rancho, they will challenge Laguna Beach at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
