Hoover won against Immaculate Heart last Thursday with 23 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Tornados put the hurt on the St. Mary's Academy Belles with a sharp 23-12 win. Evelyn Ortiz was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off one hit. Ortiz was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Hoover got a massive performance out of Bianca Parker, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Natalie Menasaka, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
The victory made it two in a row for Hoover and bumps their season record up to 12-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 23.0 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's Academy, their loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoover will challenge Crescenta Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Mary's Academy, they will take on Sacred Heart of Jesus at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
