Baseball Recap: Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Comes Up Short

Norris City-Omaha-Enfield had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it four. They lost 6-0 to the Pope County Pirates. The Fighting Cardinals were not able to make up for their defeat to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in May of 2022.

As for Pope County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games.

For Pope County's part, Tucker Nalley was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Nalley has become a key player for Pope County: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 3-7 otherwise. Nalley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Pope County got a big performance out of Hunter Steele, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Grayson Fritch was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
