Softball Recap: Melbourne Comes Up Short

After flying high against Yellville-Summit on Monday, Melbourne came back down to earth. Melbourne took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Salem Greyhounds on Tuesday. The Bearkatz were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matches prior), but the Greyhounds' pitcher proved too tough.

Kallie Thornton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Melbourne's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Salem, the win keeps they at an undefeated 4-0.

Melbourne didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-0 victory against Cave City on the 20th. Salem has also already played their next contest (against Bergman), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
