Softball Recap: Marquette Beats Bloomington Central Catholic for Their Fourth Straight Win

Marquette entered their tilt with Bloomington Central Catholic on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Saints. The Crusaders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Saints, too.

Savanah Erickson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Durdan, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Hunter Hopkins was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI.

Marquette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Marquette's victory bumped their record up to 23-6. As for Bloomington Central Catholic, they moved to 20-11 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marquette will face off against Newman Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Bloomington Central Catholic, they will challenge Dunlap at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
