Softball Recap: South Elgin Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

South Elgin waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Elgin Maroons 16-1. Considering the Storm have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaidence Runachik made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adriana Jimenez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Liv Miller was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

South Elgin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.

South Elgin pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Elgin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

South Elgin didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 23-2 win against West Aurora on the 15th. As for Elgin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-1 loss against Addison Trail on the 16th.
