Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Happy Arune and Emily Haux Lead Gaston Christian to Victory

Gaston Christian hadn't done well against Hickory Grove Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Everything went the Gaston Christian Eagles' way against the Hickory Grove Christian Lions as the Gaston Christian Eagles made off with a 67-44 win. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Gaston Christian to victory were Emily Haux and Happy Arune. Haux went 11 for 16 on her way to 23 points along with seven assists and six rebounds, while Arune dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. What's more, Arune also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Trinity Genteman was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Gaston Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive games.

Lauren Feaster and Mackenzie Williams certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Feaster dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Williams went 7 of 15 en route to 21 points. Williams is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games.

Gaston Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Hickory Grove Christian, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Gaston Christian Eagles take on the Socrates Academy Owls at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Gaston Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season. As for Hickory Grove Christian, they will challenge Concord Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hickory Grove Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
