Baseball Preview: Capital Jaguars vs. Eldorado Golden Eagles
Capital is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Saturday. They will host the Eldorado Golden Eagles at 10:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Capital 3.9, Eldorado 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Monday, Capital was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Michael's, taking the game 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.
Meanwhile, Eldorado got themselves on the board against West Mesa on Saturday, but West Mesa never followed suit. They blew past the Mustangs 16-0. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Kavan Salas made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Salas was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, John Wofford was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cirillio Martinez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Eldorado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Capital's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Eldorado, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.
