Baseball Game Preview: Rio Grande City Rattlers vs. Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots

The Rio Grande City Rattlers are taking a road trip to challenge the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rio Grande City's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Mission Veterans Memorial's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Rio Grande City had taken Mission Veterans Memorial down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. Rio Grande City took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mission Veterans Memorial.

For Mission Veterans Memorial's part, Richard Garcia looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, Garcia didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Mission Veterans Memorial let Jorge De Leon and Carter Handy run wild. De Leon scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Handy scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that Handy snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahziel Trevi?o, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Mission Veterans Memorial, bringing their record for this year to 9-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Rio Grande City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
