Softball Recap: Central Catholic Comes Up Short

If Central Catholic was feeling good fresh off their 15-6 takedown of Bishop Amat on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Central Catholic Raiders came up short against the Cypress Centurions on Friday, falling 12-3. The contest marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Taryn Calderon and Samantha Nichols did some serious damage despite the final result: Calderon went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Nichols went 1-for-3 with one home run. Nichols is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Madie Harrison was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Central Catholic lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in four consecutive matches.

Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Cypress, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-1.

Central Catholic (ranked 27th) will meet Sierra (ranked 225th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season. Similarly, Cypress will face off against Whittier Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday up 68 places (20 vs. 88).
