Football Preview: Andress Eagles vs. Chapin Huskies
The Andress Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Chapin Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Andress took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 61-6 victory over Jefferson.
Jared Gordon went supernova for Andress, picking up 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Gordon's longest reception was for an incredible 85 yards. Andress also got a significant boost from Carmelo Jones, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 121 yards.
Andress' defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Javier Serrano, Devon Lewis, and Tyshaun Brown picked up one apiece. Evan Rivera had a dynamite game for Chapin, throwing for 242 yards and five touchdowns while completing 76% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. That's the most rushing yards Rivera has posted since back in October of 2023. Daveon Singleton helped Rivera out on the ground, picking up 79 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 35 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Chapin's defense and their three sacks. Fabian Garcia was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up twohimself. Another thorn in Horizon's side was Danny De La Paz, who made six total tackles and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception which he returned for a touchdown.
Andress' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Chapin, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Andress was taken down by Chapin 49-21 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Singleton, who rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
