Basketball Recap: Quad Cities Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ayda Kyer and Kennedy Ochkie

If Quad Cities Christian was feeling good fresh off their 45-22 takedown of Pathway Christian last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Quad Cities Christian Eagles took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Unity Christian Knights. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-14 back in November.

Quad Cities Christian's loss on Tuesday came despite strong showings from Kennedy Ochkie and Ayda Kyer. Ochkie posted 13 points along with five boards and five steals, while Kyer had 11 points in addition to seven steals and six boards. Kyer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Raegan Ochkie was another key player, putting up two points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Unity Christian found their leader in sophomore Maddy Wilbur, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Wilbur is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Van Kampen, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 15 points.

Quad Cities Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 6.09 assists in those games compared to only 6.09 in the others. As for Unity Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

Quad Cities Christian will welcome East Moline Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Quad Cities Christian is facing East Moline Christian at the right time seeing as East Moline Christian is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Unity Christian, they will head out to take on Pathway Christian at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th.
