Football Recap: East Newton Starts Season with Loss at Home

East Newton unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 31-27 to the Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish on Friday. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fighting Irish apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Despite the loss, East Newton still got an impressive performance from Caden Youngblood, who rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 197 yards and a pair of TDs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Newton will challenge Lamar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Springfield Catholic, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
